About Me

Kristen is a storyteller, world-builder and way-finder based in Oakland, CA. Her comics and stories weave magic, memory & nonfiction to repair intergenerational trauma, reconnect us to ancestral wisdom, and open new possibilities for the future. Her people are the ones who live in the in-between spaces and generate hope.

Kristen is committed to a world rooted in our interdependent thriving. She has three decades of experience of helping people reimagine, reshape and embody a new world view. She has co-founded and directed numerous projects that apply world-building practices to real-world transformation, including: Root. Rise. Pollinate!, The Transitions Network, Decolonize Race, Movement Strategy Center, Youth In Focus, and Community LORE.

She holds an MFA in Comics from the California College of Art and a BA in visual art with a focus on education from Brown University with additional training in photography from the Chicago Art Institute, Rhode Island School of Design and the Working Men’s College in London, and in radio from Pacifica Radio.

Some of her happy places are hanging out with her modern queer family, training in zen, spending time in nature and making really good food with friends.
